Exhibition

3rd October - 3rd November 2005

Based on research at London Zoo

curated by Jolanta Jagiello

Zoo-A-logical: Walking in the Zoo is the thing to do... - a group exhibition of visual contemporary responses to the London Zoo, the worlds first scientific zoo, situated in Regents Park founded by Sir Stamford Raffles to further public understanding of zoology. Do you remember your first trip to the Zoo? The keepers, the varied collection of animals: monkeys, gorillas, tigers, snakes, penguins to name a few, the feeding times, the cafe, and the gift shop. This group exhibition unravels the mystery of the Zoo and the fascination that it holds on us through referencing: the past found in Zoological Library, the present London Zoo with over 850 different species, and future conservation projects protecting endangered species. Come and experience this imaginative and dynamic show with plenty to see and to talk about with over 30 diverse artworks representing the breadth of contemporary artistic practices responding to the work of the ZSL (Zoological Society of London). The exhibition is curated by Jolanta Jagiello who specializes in site-specific and public art exhibitions. We would like to acknowledge our thanks to ZSL for access and information, and particularly to Catherine Halcrow, Head of Interpretation at the London Zoo for her support. In the Knapp Gallery, Regent s College, York Rd, Inner Circle, Regents Park, London, NW1 4RY.
